Maureen A. Barlow

User Experience Researcher in Boston

I focus on insights & measurable results

User research for the sake of it doesn't get you very far. You must first understand:
  • What you need to know.
  • Why you need to know it.
  • Who you need to learn from.
  • How you plan to measure it.
  • What you plan to do with it.

User research that gets you insights, a direction, and actionable items will get you where you need to go.

That's where I come in.

My Methods

Picture
User Experience
Research
I am skilled in various qualitative and quantitative research methods with web, software, and hardware products in a variety of industries, including scientific instrumentation, finance, publishing, engineering, and corporate training.

Research
Analysis
With my data analysis experience, including a Certificate in Business Analytics from Harvard Business School, I analyze UX research data--both qualitative and quantitative--to get answers to my stakeholders' most burning questions.

Prototyping

Using various prototyping tools, including good old-fashioned paper, Axure, InVision, Adobe XD, Balsamiq, and plain-old PowerPoint, I iterate on ideas and concepts that meet customers' needs.

Information
Architecture
Taxonomy, naming conventions, information design, and instructional design are key skills I use to determine the best way to present information to users so they can use products to achieve their goals.

Planning &
Strategy
It's important to learn about and address user needs, yet it's just as important to learn about and address the needs of stakeholders and senior leaders. After all, they're the ones who fund the projects and act as the UX research team's champions.
